Mumbai : Amid rising number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai, the civic authority has notified hospitals that they must not allot COVID beds to the patients who have tested positive but are asymptomatic. This has been done to increase the availability of beds for the needy people.

The hospitals have also been asked to discharge the asymptomatic patients at earliest to increase the availability of beds in the hospital.

The order came a day after the city reported its highest-ever daily spike with 6,923 COVID-19 cases.

The BMC has also asked the medical facilities to accommodate their maximum number of beds for positive patients.

80 per cent of the total Covid beds and 100 per cent of the ICU beds at private hospitals shall be kept reserved for ward war room allotment to Coronavirus patients only, stated an official release by the BMC.

BMC commissioner IS Chahal has also empowered assistant commissioners to take decisions at the ward level and stressed activation of war rooms at the ward level for better management of available beds, ICU beds, ventilators among others, as per the order.

On Monday, Maharashtra reported over 37,000 new coronavirus cases, a little less than its highest single day spike. The overall tally of coronavirus cases in the state now stands at 27,45,518 , the state health department said.
