North India faces severe cold wave, temperature likely to dip up to 2 degrees

New Delhi : North India is reeling under an intense cold wave, with temperatures expected to plunge to as low as 2°C in several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for severe cold and dense fog across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Going by the forecast, Delhi will face minimum temperatures between 2°C and 4°C, marking one of the coldest spells of the season.
Dense fog has further compounded the situation, reducing visibility and disrupting road and rail traffic. The IMD cautioned that foggy conditions could lead to hazardous driving and even power line tripping in some areas. Residents have been advised to wear multiple layers of woollens and limit outdoor exposure to avoid frostbite.
While the north shivers, southern states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka are experiencing cloud cover, though rainfall is unlikely in central India.
Looking ahead, global weather patterns may influence India’s climate in the coming months. Skymet Weather reports that La Niña conditions, which often intensify Indian winters, are expected to collapse by early spring 2026. This transition could pave the way for El Niño’s return during the monsoon season, potentially altering rainfall distribution across the subcontinent.
