One more thunderstorm to hit Delhi in next 48 hours, IMD warns

New Delhi : The capital city Delhi is likely to face the massive thunderstorm once again. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm warning for the next 48 to 72 hours. The current weather report highlights that the thunderstorm with gusty winds and rain will hit the areas of Narnaul, Alwar, Bharatpur, Mathura and Agra.

Sources confirmed that a huge dust storm hit Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday. Strong winds over the speed of 100 kmph, loaded with dust, lashed the city. Reports of damage to property and vehicles have also been reported. As per IMD report, more storms are expected to affect Delhi and surrounding regions including Rohtak, Manesar, Gurgaon, Sonepat and Meerut within next few hours.

"Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are also very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Telangana, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Kerala," the IMD said in an advisory said.

It was on May 13 and May 14, when strong winds, accompanied with dust destructed major parts of the city. The devastation claimed over 80 lives in the five states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Mostly, the coastal areas in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, parts of South Karnataka, north Tamil Nadu and Kerala also witnessed the thunderstorm activity. For now, Northeastern part of India is expected to experience thunderstorm.

Earlier on May 2, at least 100 people died in north India and some other states, owing to thunderstorms.
