New Delhi : Onions are all set to leave customers teary eyed this season as the price have touched Rs 100 per kg mark in some states due to unseasonal rainfall leading to wastage of a large amount of crop in Maharashtra.

According to some media reports, the average price of the onion in wholesale markets was recorded Rs 55.55 per kg.

The prices are expected to rise more as the November rains have led to the shortage of the onions in the market.

Rains have been battering the key onion growing zones over the last two weeks and an Indian Express report indicated that extensive damage to onions was caused by the rains in Nashik, Ahmednagar and Pune.

The prices of onions had recovered a bit to Rs 60 per kg last month, but it appears that they will rise again soon across the country.
