New Delhi : Delhi's daily COVID cases crossed 17,000-mark on Friday. 15 per cent more than the cases registered on Thursday. In the last 24 hours, nine people have lost their lives.

Delhi's daily positivity rate has increased up to 17.73 per cent; 97,762 tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours.

The city total cases of coronavirus have shown sudden surge that is believed to be driven of omicron variant.

Earlier in the day, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had predicted more than 17,000 coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, hospitalizations have not increased in comparison to the surge in coronavirus cases. "Call it mild, something only experts can tell but the hospitalisations have been few," the minister said.

However, the number of patients admitted to hospitals in Delhi has increased from 247 on January 1 to 1,390 on Friday, a whopping 462 per cent jump in a week.

It must be noted that there are more than 30,000 active cases in the national capital but only 24 patients are on ventilators as of now.

The health minister asserted that people must follow the coronavirus guidelines and curbs to reduce the number of coronavirus cases.
