P Chidambaram being hunted, we stand by him: Priyanka Gandhi
New Delhi : Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday tweeted her support for the senior leader P Chidambaram, who is facing an arrest for his alleged involvement in the INX Media case, claiming that he is 'shamefully being hunted'.
"An extremely qualified and respected member of the Rajya Sabha, @PChidambaram_IN ji has served our nation with loyalty for decades including as Finance Minister & Home Minister," Priyanka Gandhi said in a two-part tweet.
"He unhesitatingly speaks truth to power and exposes the failures of this government, but the truth is inconvenient to cowards so he is being shamefully hunted down. We stand by him and will continue to fight for the truth no matter what the consequences are," she said.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday denied an interim bail to senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in a case of irregularities in foreign investment received by the INX Media Private Limited when he was Finance Minister of India.
P Chidambaram, immediately knocked the doors of Supreme Court. The apex body will hear him on Wednesday.
"The matter was heard seven months ago with the order reserved for seven months. It is unfortunate that a request to defer the order was decided at 4pm, making it impossible for us to raise the issue at the Supreme Court," Singhvi said.
"For last many years, P Chidambaram attended every summons issued by the CBI as well as the ED without any single default. He has been on anticipatory bail for over last 15 months. There is absolutely no probable cause for arrest," Singhvi added.
Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) visited his residence to arrest him but he was not available there.
