PM Modi, Amit Shah mislead people of India on NRC and CAA: Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi : Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah of misleading the nation over the amended Citizenship Act and NRC. She also blamed them of remaining "insensitive to state suppression and violence."

The statements from Sonia Gandhi came during her addressed to the opposition leaders from the 20 parties.

Sonia Gandhi said that CAA and NRC triggered long-piling anger among the people, leading to violence and protests across the nation. She also claimed that the action taken by the police in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh was brutal.

"The Prime Minister and Home Minister have misled the people. They have contradicted their own statements of only weeks ago, and continue with their provocative statements while remaining insensitive to the state suppression and violence that is increasingly becoming commonplace," she said.

The Modi-Shah government stands totally exposed for its inability to govern and to provide security to the people, Gandhi alleged.

Claiming that NRC has back-fired in Assam and in wake of it, they are now planning to launch the NPR exercise that is scheduled to begin in a few months.

She also blasted PM Modi and Amit Shah for failing to revive the diminishing economic condition of the nation.

While senior leaders from the Opposition party took part in the meeting; BSP, TMC and AAP kept themselves out from it.
