PM Modi praises Mamata Banerjee as he announced Rs 1000-crore aid for Bengal
Kolkata : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced Rs 1000-crore aid to reconstruct Bengal which has been rattled by cyclone Amphan. PM assured people of Bengal that Centre will provide all possible help as it stands with Trinamool Congress ruled state. He also praised CM Mamata Banerjee who has been a fierce critic of Modi.
In a video statement after his aerial survey of the affected areas, PM Modi said Bengal had to face cyclone Amphan at a time when the nation was already fighting with coronavirus.
Due to coronavirus, people were asked to maintain social distancing and stay inside homes; but because of the cyclone people had to leave their house and move to safe shelters. He praised Mamata Banerjee and said her government has done a commendable work during the crisis.
“Despite these contradictions, West Bengal is fighting well,” PM Modi’s office later tweeted, reiterating PM Modi’s commitment to stand with the people of Bengal in these “testing times”.
Earlier today, Mamata Banerjee had gone personally to receive PM Narendra Modi at the airport. But she did later call on PM Modi at Raj Bhavan, describing it as a courtesy to the visiting dignitary.
