PM Modi to discuss surge in COVID cases with states via video conference
New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be holding a video conference with the states to further discuss on escalating cases of coronavirus.
The Prime Minister will hold a video conference with the heads of 21 states and union territories at 3 pm Tuesday, including Punjab, Assam, Kerala and all northeastern states. On Wednesday, also at 3 pm, he will meet with the 15 worst-affected - including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Delhi.
This will be sixth and seventh meeting of PM Narendra Modi with the Chief Ministers since the lockdown in India was imposed.
According to the data released by the Health Ministry of India, it has been learned that around 11,000 new cases were registered on Monday, pushing the total number to 3.32 lakh.
This is the third time when India has registered more than 11,000 coronavirus cases in a day and fourth time over 10,000. So far, 9,520 people have lost their lives to the contagious coronavirus.
The spike in coronavirus cases was registered after the government announced major relaxations to revive the economy; last week hotels and restaurants, shopping malls and places of worship were allowed to open, providing they followed social distancing rules.
Most forms of public transportation were also allowed, albeit with some restrictions, and private offices were allowed to function.
