New Delhi : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Sunday set a historic record by becoming the longest-serving head of government in India. He surpassed former Sikkim Chief Minister Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling to achieve this milestone.

Prime Minister Shri Modi has served a total of 8,931 days as head of government, including his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat and as Prime Minister of India, exceeding Shri Chamling’s record of 8,930 days.

Shri Narendra Modi is also the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Prime Minister with the longest prior experience as a Chief Minister. Born after Independence, he has led the Bharatiya Janata Party to victory in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections in 2014, 2019, and 2024.

His popularity in the digital space has also been significant. In 2014, he became the first serving world leader to cross 100 million followers on Instagram. Currently, he has over 101 million followers on Instagram and more than 106 million followers on X, making his presence one of the most influential among global leaders.

In October last year, after winning the elections, Shri Modi entered the 25th year of his tenure as Prime Minister of India.

Shri Amit Malviya, In-charge of the BJP’s National Information and Technology Department, congratulated the Prime Minister, saying, “This is a rare and remarkable achievement, reflecting decades of continuous public service and strong leadership.”
