PM Narendra Modi greets nation on Easter

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday greeted people of India on the occasion of Easter.

PM Modi extended his greetings via a tweet. He wrote: "Happy Easter! We recall the thoughts and ideals of Jesus Christ and the emphasis on social justice as well as compassion. May the spirit of joy and brotherhood be furthered in our society."

What is Easter?

Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.
