PM Narendra Modi makes historic touchdown on Assam's first emergency landing highway

Moran : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday made history after he landed at Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Assam’s Moran, which is an example to the state’s growing infrastructure development.

The special stretch on the highway has been made to the Air Force to use it during the time of emergencies. Prime Minister inaugurated the stretch by landing on it in Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft.

The landing becomes more special as the state is all set for polls. PM Narendra Modi reached the Emergency Landing Facility on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh from the Chabua airfield. The stretch has been developed at a cost of Rs 100 crores. Also, it is the first infrastructure project in the North East region.

The facility, which will strengthen defence, logistics and disaster response in the region, has been designed for both civil and military use, serving as an alternative to the Dibrugarh airport during emergencies.

The ELF is capable of handling fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes maximum take-off weight.

A 40-minute-long air show was also held at the ground for the Prime Minister.
