Kochi : On April 25, India will get its first water metro service - the Kochi Water Metro, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This exceptional project uses battery-operated electric hybrid boats to connect 10 islands around Kochi, enabling effortless connectivity with the city of Kochi.

The port city's Kochi Water Metro has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1,136.83 crore. Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, referred to the project as a "dream project" of the state in a tweet on Saturday, expressing his excitement for the growth of the southern state's transport and tourism industries.

In his tweet, he revealed that KfW, a German funding agency, helped fund the project, which includes 78 electric boats and 38 terminals, making it a world-class venture that connects 10 islands in and around Kochi.

The initial phase of the project will commence shortly, beginning from the High Court-Vypin terminals to the Vyttila-Kakkanad terminals. Commuters can utilize the "Kochi 1" card to travel on both the Kochi metro and water metro services, and digital ticket booking is also available.
