Pragya Thakur tenders second apology over Godse remark in Lok Sabha

New Delhi : Pragya Thakur on Friday apologized for the second time in Lok Sabha and claimed that she never mentioned Nathuram Godse as a patriot.

"On November 27, during my speech over Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill, 2019, I did not call Nathuram Godse a deshbakt. I did not even mention his name. I apologise again if I have hurt the sentiments of any," she said.

This is the second time Pragya Thakur has apologized for her remarks she had made during her speech over Godse.

Earlier, the Opposition protested in the Parliament after she tendered her first apology. "If I have hurt anyone's sentiments, I regret and tender my apology.

"My statements made in Parliament are being distorted. I respect Mahatma Gandhi's contribution to the nation," she mentioned in her first apology.

Unsatisfied with her apology, the Congress leaders started protesting in the house with loud slogans against her.

In her statement, she also attacked one of the house members for tagging her as "a terrorist". It is an attack on my dignity, no charges have been proved in the court against me.

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi had tweeted over her speech while tagging her as the terrorist.

While BJP protested against Rahul Gandhi's remark, he said that he will stand by his remark and is ready to face any action on it. "Yes, I stand by my statement. What I have written on Twitter, I stand by it. Yes"; he told reporters when asked if he stood by his statement calling Thakur a "terrorist".
