Public transport in Delhi now free for women travellers

New Delhi : Months before Delhi Assembly Elections, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that public transport including Metro, Delhi Transport Corporation buses and cluster buses will be free for women commuters.

Announcing free travel for women in Delhi, he said, "On all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains women will be allowed to travel free of cost so that they have safe travel experience and can access modes of transport which they were not able to, due to high prices."

Check out the key takeaways from the announcement:

# According to the proposal, women travellers in Delhi will be able to access Delhi Metro, Delhi Transport Corporation buses and cluster buses for free.

# Delhi CM said that women who can afford the tickets can buy the tickets. "It is not mandatory to avail free services."

# Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the move is aimed at making the public transport in Delhi safer for women.

# The proposed plan will take around six months to be fully implemented.

# The loss in revenue due to the scheme will be borne by the Delhi government.

# The AAP will seek public suggestions before making the proposal official.
