New Delhi : Congress President, who is on a tour of flood-hit Kerala, on Saturday won hearts with his decision to defer helicopter ride, allowing an air ambulance to carry a heart patient in distress.

Rahul Gandhi was expected to fly from Chengannur to Alappuzha by his chopper when a woman in a nearby relief camp had a cardiac arrest and needed to be taken via air ambulance to the medical college.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor shared the news on Twitter lauding Rahul Gandhi's decision with a hashtag #NetaHoToAisa. His tweet read: "Well done @RahulGandhi — deferred his own helicopter flight so that an air ambulance could transport an elderly heart-patient to hospital. #NetaHoToAisa."

Rahul Gandhi is on a Kerala tour to assess the losses and provide all possible assistance to the needy people. Earlier today, Gandhi assured inmates of a relief camp near Kochi that his party in its limited way will do everything possible to help the people get back on their feet.

Over 300 people have lost their lives in the recent floods in Kerala.
