Rajasthan records 11 cases of Kappa variant, state government cautions people

Jaipur : Days after Uttar Pradesh recorded cases of Kappa variant, Rajasthan has confirmed 11 people with the new strain of coronavirus on Tuesday. State health minister Raghu Sharma said that 4 people from Alwar and Jaipur each, two from Barmer and one in Bhilwara has been diagnosed with the Kappa variant.

Nine out of 11 cases have been confirmed after genome sequencing done at IGIB lab in Delhi. Two samples were confirmed with Kappa strain at SMS Medical college and hospital in Jaipur.

Meanwhile, Mr Sharma claimed that Kappa variant is comparatively moderate than the Delta variant. He also appealed from people to strictly follow coronavirus guidelines to stay safe from the virus.



On Monday, Rajasthan reported 33 new Covid-19 cases which pushed the state’s infection tally to 9,53,159. The death toll stands at 8,945.

On July 9, two cases of Kappa variant were detected in Uttar Pradesh. Genome sequencing of 109 samples was done at King George’s medical college in the past few days.
