RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat snubs government order, unfurls national flag at school

Palakkad : Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday snubbed government order, unfurled a tricolour at a school to celebrate 69th Republic Day of India in Kerala’s Palakkad town. The government had directed the flag at educational institutions will only be hoisted by the heads of their respective institutes.

The CPI(M)-led LDF government had released a circular two days back, instructing that tricolour will be hoisted by only headmasters or principals of institutions.

Mohan Bhagwat reached the Vyas Vidya Peethom, a CBSE-affiliated higher secondary school, at 9.30am with some functionaries and unfurled the flag. He also gave a mini-speech on the occasion in which he did not mention anything about the politics.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the district collector had issued a warning to the school and had requested them to comply government orders.

District collector Mary Kutty restrained the government-aided school saying it was not proper for a political leader to hoist the national flag in an aided school.

The school ignored Kutty's warning and went ahead with the event that included flag hoisting by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, leaving government red faced.
