Hyderabad : A Tamil Nadu cadre trainee IPS officer was lodged behind bars after intelligence bureau officers caught him cheating in the Union Public Service Commission (Main) examination at a test centre in Egmore, Chennai.

As per initial investigation report, Safeer Karim – the accused cheater – was carrying a cellphone, Bluetooth-enabled button camera sticked to his shirt and a wireless earpiece while writing exam in Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School.

According to a report by Times of India, Safeer was getting answers dictated to him via his wife.

"Karim's wife, Joicy Joy, dictated the answers to him from Hyderabad," the report quoted an investigating officer.

Safeer was picked up by cops from the 'La Excellence IAS -The Institute for Civil Services' at Ashok Nagar Crossroads in Hyderabad.

Karim, from Aluva, Kerala, who ranked 112 in a second attempt at the UPSC exams in 2015 after falling short in the interview the previous year, is an electronics engineer and proprietor of Karim's IAS, which trains civil service candidates and has branches in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

Kareem has been charged with sections of the IPC, including 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and 120b (criminal conspiracy), and under provisions of the IT Act, and after he was handed over to police by investigating intelligence bureau officers.

The cops presented him before a district court, from where he was remanded to a judicial custody.
