New Delhi : In a huge jolt to former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha, the Supreme Court on Monday directed to conduct a probe for his alleged involvement in the infamous coal scam.

The apex court bench headed by Justice Madan B Lockur and also comprising Justice Prafulla C Pant asked the investigating agency to go ahead with the probe for his alleged involvement and hand in glove with certain accused to scuttle the probe in the coal block scam case.

The top court passed the order after going through in great detailed the arguments put forth by NGO, Common Cause seeking a thorough investigation against Sinha.

The coal scam is infamously called coalgate, in 2012, the opposition BJP lodged a complaint resulting in a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into whether the allocation of the coal blocks was in fact influenced by corruption against UPA.
