Short winter session in Parliament likely after Gujarat polls

New Delhi : A short winter session of Parliament is likely to be held after the Gujarat Assembly elections.

Informed sources said dates for the session were likely to be decided at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh on December 17.

They said the government was looking at the possibility of calling the session, which may last a week or 10 days at the most.

Campaigning for the two-phase election in Gujarat will end on December 12. The second phase of the election is set for December 14.

The session may start immediately after the campaign ends on December 12, the sources said, and end before Christmas.

Usually, the winter session of Parliament begins around the middle of November and lasts till the middle or third week of December.

This year, the government appears not keen on having the session in the middle of the elections in Gujarat, considered very crucial for both the BJP and the Congress, whose leaders are busy campaigning in the state.
