Simaria Dham renovation: Bihar CM to lay foundation stone, Sanjay Jha reveals details
Patna : On May 30, 2023, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will lay foundation stone for the Revitalization of Simaria Dham, a cultural epicenter along the Ganga, which attracts devotees from India, Nepal, and Bhutan during the famous month-long festival - Kalpvas Mela.
According to popular belief, the tradition of the Kalpvas festival has persisted on the banks of the Ganga river in Simaria, Begusarai district, approximately 110 km away from Patna, since the era of Raja Videh. This month-long celebration remains an integral part of the local culture.
Water resource minister Sanjay Jha said that a detailed report over the development of Simaria Dham has been prepared on the direction of the chief minister. An estimated cost for the development stands at ₹114.97 crore.
"Last year, CM had himself visited Simaria during Kalpvas Mela. During his visit, he had interacted with the pilgrims. He later reviewed the concept plan developed by the WRD. He wants Simaria ghat to develop like the Har Ki Pouri in Hardwar or even better is," Mr Jha said.
Mr Jha stated that the project encompasses the construction of a riverfront and stairs leading to the ghat, the establishment of modern amenities for pilgrims visiting the site and a dedicated location for the Ganga aarti. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a watchtower, shaded canopy, pathway, park, landscaping, and parking facility.
The project will also benefit the neighboring areas by preventing erosion and flooding. It has the potential to become a significant destination for religious tourism, as religious events take place there throughout the year. Moreover, it holds immense sacredness for the entire Mithila region, being considered the most holy site even for last rites. More amenities will be added to the Muktidham at Simaria.
