Surajkund Mela Accident: Rides remain close day after tragic accident that killed cop

Faridabad : Surajkund Mela this year saw a tragic accident as one of the rides – Tsunami swing – snapped midair and collapsed on Saturday evening. An on-duty cop was killed and 13 others were injured in the accident. Rides remained closed for the following day as our team visited the site to check the current status.
According to the local media reports, around 15 people were riding the swing when it came crashing onto the ground in the evening.
The inspector who lost his life in the tragedy has been identified as Jagdish Prasad of Palwal Police. He was posted on fair duty. Soon after the accident, the cop was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was supposed to get retired in the March this year.
Soon after the swing collapsed, the entire Mela ground was evacuated and District Magistrate Ayush Sinha led the rescue operations with other agencies and oversaw the shifting of the injured to hospital.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Nayab Saini, condoled the loss of life in the tragic incident.
"I am deeply saddened by the accident that occurred during the Surajkund Mela organised in Faridabad. I express my heartfelt condolences to the family of the person who lost their life in this incident. At the same time, necessary directions have been issued to the concerned authorities for the appropriate and immediate treatment of the injured individuals," the Chief Minister posted on X.
Surajkund Mela was inaugurated on January 31 and is set to end on February 15, 2026.
