Teacher aspirant hangs self in West Bengal after being offered housekeeping job
Kolkata : A 30-year-old teacher aspirant committed suicide in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district after he was offered a housekeeping job, his family said on Wednesday.
Tanu Mistry, who had completed teacher's training course and had a post graduate degree in English, hanged himself at his house in Natulpally in Sonarpur on Tuesday, hours after his dream of becoming a teacher was shattered.
Mistry had cleared the written examination for Teacher Eligibility Test but could not proceed beyond the interview.
"One has to pay Rs 7 lakh for a primary teacher's job, and more for a job of a teacher in higher classes. How could I get the amount?" said Mistry's inconsolable father.
A depressed Mistry had gone for a job interview at a firm on Tuesday. "When he came back, he looked crestfallen. He told me: 'So now after doing my M.A and B.Ed, I have to earn my leaving washing dishes and cleaning premises. How can I do such jobs?'" said his mother.
On Tuesday evening, Mistry locked himself in his room and raised the volume of the television. As he did not come out for hours, the family members knocked on the door repeatedly. After there was no response, they broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling.
