New Delhi : The time gap between first and second dose of coronavirus vaccine has not been reduced and the precautionary dose can also be taken only after completing nine months from the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

There were reports which claimed that the nine-month time gap has been reduced to six months. According to a report by news agency ANI, there is no such official confirmation to this and currently the time gap remains nine months as earlier.

Rules for precautionary dose

All adults above the age group of 18 years can take the precautionary dose after he/she has completed nine months from the date of second dose.

India had started administering the precautionary dose to healthcare and frontline workers and those aged 60 and above with comorbidities from January 10. In the month of March, the government made the vaccine eligible for all adults.

According to health ministry data, 5,17,547 precaution doses have been administered in age group 18-59 years so far. Besides, 47,36,567 healthcare workers, 7447184 frontline workers and 14545595 individuals aged 60 and above have taken the precaution shot.
