Patna : Two people lost their lives, and seven others were missing following a tragic incident where a boat capsized in Bihar's Saran district on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Nine individuals successfully swam to the riverbank, while the bodies of two women were recovered. Officials express concerns that the seven missing individuals may have met a similar fate. Nonetheless, rescue operations were carried through the night.

Aman Samir, the District Magistrate of Saran, informed PTI that the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm when a boat carrying 18 passengers sank in the Saryu River near Matiyar Ghat in the Manjhi block. He confirmed the initiation of a rescue operation and the ongoing efforts to identify the deceased, adding that further investigations are being conducted to determine the cause of the tragedy.

This was the second significant boat capsize incident in the state in recent times. On September 14, over 15 children were presumed to have drowned when their boat capsized in the Bagmati River in Muzaffarpur district. This incident occurred while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was in the district to assess the progress of various ongoing projects.
