Mumbai : Amid heavy rains in Mumbai, two buildings have collapsed in two different areas on Thursday. Many people are feared trapped under the debris.

The first building collapse was reported in the Fort area of south Mumbai where a portion of six-storey residential building collapsed. Four fire engines and a rescue van was rushed to the spot, said officials.

"A portion of the ground and upper five floored residential building had collapsed. Search operation for trapped persons is in progress. As per locals, several people are trapped but we are still awaiting confirmation," said one of the officials.

In another incident, a three-storied chawl collapsed in Malwani in the Malad suburb of Mumbai. One person has been reported dead and due to dense population living in the building several residents have been feared trapped under the debris.

According to the officials, five to six people were trapped under the debris. Of them, two were rescued and sent to hospitals after being provided first aid.

The rains have been showering horror in Mumbai. On Wednesday, a portion of a house collapsed at Pavwala Street in Mumbai's Grant Road.

Since Tuesday, heavy rains have been lashing the city, resulting in water logging at several areas.
