Unnao rape survivour set ablaze by accused, getting treatment in Delhi with 90% burns
Unnao : A 24-year-old rape survivour from Unnao was set on fire by five men including two of the accused; the girl is now getting treatment in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital with 90% burns.
The girl was airlifted from Lucknow on Thursday evening and a green corridor was provided by the Delhi Police to the ambulance from the airport to the hospital. The 13-kilometre distance was covered in 18 minutes, a release by the Delhi Police said.
The doctors confirmed that the girl has received 90 per cent of the burns on her body.
“We have set up a dedicated ICU room for the patient. A team of doctors would be monitoring her health condition,” Dr Sunil Gupta, Medical Superintendent at Safdarjung Hospital, told PTI.
She will be under the observation of Dr Shalab Kumar, Head of Burn and Plastic Surgery at the hospital.
What had happened?
The victim girl was on her way to the Baiswara Bihar railway station to catch an early morning train for a court hearing on Thursday. She was stopped by a group of men who forced her to withdraw the case. After her refusal, the men attacked her with a knife and as she fell, they poured petrol and set her on fire.
The police was informed by the locals who saw survivour covered in flames. According to a report by Press Trust of India, she ran for about 1 kilometer seeking their help.
All the five men named by the woman were arrested after the incident. They include both Shivam Trivedi and Shubham Trivedi, who are accused in the 2018 gang rape case.
