New Delhi : A bus with 28 pilgrims on Yamunotri National Highway fell into a gorge near Damta in Uttarkashi district. At least 25 passengers lost their lives on the spot and the remaining injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

PM Narendra Modi has announced a compensation of Rs 2-2 lakh each to the family members of deceased in the accident. "The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident in Uttarakhand. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each."

According to a report, the bus was traveling towards Yamunotri and fell into a gorge near Damta district; SDRF team has been deployed to carry the rescue operation. The majority of travelers are from Madhya Pradesh.

Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his grief and sorrow over the incident. In a tweet, he said, "I am saddened with the news of a bus falling into a gorge in Uttarkashi, I am in touch with CM Pushkar Singh Dhami over the incident."

Since all the passengers who lost their lives were from Madhya Pradesh, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also condoled the death of pilgrims.
