Woman stripped in Assam for selling illicit liquor, video goes viral

Assam : A woman has been stripped by the villagers in Assam for allegedly selling illicit liquor, said police on Friday. The incident came to light after the attack video went viral on social media; a FIR has been registered in the matter. 

"The incident took place on September 10 in a very remote tribal area under Nagra outpost along the Assam-Mizoram border. We came to know of it only after the video was circulated and registered a case on Friday," Karimganj superintendent of police Gaurav Upadhyay said to PTI.

The victim woman also approached the police only after she saw the video. Post FIR, the cops visited the village and initiated the probe in the matter.

No attacker has been identified yet in the matter. 

"The group of villagers who attacked her included women. She was also stripped… We have started our investigation and we will take action as per law," Upadhyay said. 

Those who made a video of the crime and circulated it on social media would also be booked under the IT Act.  Apart from selling hooch, the woman was involved in some anti-social activities, said the SP. 

"The villagers had warned her. Even the police had warned her earlier… We will know what led to the attack after an investigation," he said.
