'Beat Plastic Pollution' is buzzing in the streets of Bandra at Mumbai

New Delhi : The United Nation (UN) has designated June 5 to celebrate World Environment Day, every year. The big day is meant to raise awareness about protecting the environment against hazardous things and human activities.

There is a buzz around the globe and we are here to help you catch the events taking place to commemorate the day

India is the global host this year and the theme is Beat Plastic Pollution. It started in 1974 and since then the day has provided a global platform for like-minded people to reach out to each other.

Officials from CRPF and ITBP have organized a programme 'Run to Beat Plastic Pollution' There was an open invitation for all. Around 12000 students and officials from CRPF and ITBP joined the event.

Also, massive efforts by UNDP in Sierra Leone where mobilized men and women participated to clear the city's drain, segregate waste and recycle plastic

SBI has organized event to promote world environment day 2018. The event invites people to participate in pan India plastic clean up drives, national reserves, forests and beach clean up activities

A team of CISF personnel led by A N Mohapatra & Principal KRTC, Mundali DIG Dr. D P Parihar carried out cleanliness drive in Odisha

An event dedicated to 'Beat Plastic Pollution' is buzzing in the streets of Bandra at Mumbai.

Also, many people are promoting the use of cloth bags over plasting and also by planting trees.

Efforts are already underway to clean the Yamuna behind the Taj Mahal.  India has committed to create litter-free zones around 100 monuments

Gujarat has also launched ‘Plastic-waste free Gujarat’ drive on June 5.

Coming to B-town, Alia Bhatt is one step closer towards purging plastic from her life. She tweets, " #BeatPlasticPollution by switching to steel or glass bottles today! Plastic bottles take 450 years or more to decompose, harming us and our environment. I'm now one step closer towards purging plastic from my life. Hope you guys will make the switch tool!"

Also, Juhi Chawla switches to bamboo toothbrush!
