AAP may offer Raghuram Rajan a Rajya Sabha seat

New Delhi : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to offer a Rajya Sabha seat to former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan to set an example of non-political personalities sent to Parliament by a political party, suggest a report.

According to a source close to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, nearly five prominent personalities have been approached for the Rajya Sabha membership, including the name of Raghuram Rajan.

Raghuram Rajan had announced demonetisation last year, followed by his resignation from the post of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor. He is currently teaching at the University of Chicago.

The report also added that the names of approached personalities are to be kept strictly confidential till their approval for the offer.

Rigorous discussions are on within the party for the selection of three Rajya Sabha nominations.
