New Delhi : Famous multi-lingual star Prakash Raj on Sunday said actors should not take to politics only because they are popular and said fans should vote not as fans but as responsible citizens.

The 'Singham' actor tweeted: "Actors should not come into politics only because they are popular. It is a disaster.

"They should come with a clear perception of the issues facing the country and win the trust of the people. And we should not vote as fans, but as responsible citizens."

Speculations were rife that the actor is planning to join Congress and might contest elections in either Andhra Pradesh or Karnataka. But his statement has put an end to rumours.

Addressing the media at an event in Bengaluru, Prakash Raj said, " I am not joining any political party. I don't like actors joining politics because they are actors and have fans. they should always be aware of their responsibility towards them."

Raj's statement comes at a time when top South India stars, including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, have expressed interest in joining the politics.
