Amazon sells toilet seats with images of Hindu gods, faces backlash

New Delhi : Amazon.com faced a major backlash on social media for selling toilet seat covers and other items with images of Hindu gods. #BoycottAmazon started trending on the social media platforms.

Thousands of the internet users joined campaign to boycott Amazon products with some tagging the Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in their tweets.

Amazon has not responded in the matter yet.

Earlier in 2017, the Indian Government had rapped up the website for listing doormats resembling with India’s flag.

Swaraj at the time threatened to rescind visas of Amazon employees if the doormats were not removed from its site.

Reuters found several listings of toilet seat covers, yoga mats, sneakers, rugs and other items depicting Hindu gods, or sacred Hindu symbols, on Amazon’s U.S. website.
