Congress promises loan waiver for farmers within 10 days in power

Bhopal : In poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Congress is assuring farmers that they will waive off their loans within 10 days if they win upcoming elections.

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi said Mr PM waived off loans of Rs 3.5 lakh crores but did nothing for the farmers; only favoured his rich friends.

"Vijay Mallya took away with Rs. 10,000 crore, Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi ran away with thousands of crores. You can waive their loans but can't do the same for the poor farmers of the country? You promied to provide best cost for their produce... you promised to change their lives. When I asked him why haven't you done anything, his (PM Modi) response was silence. Not one word, no assurance, he didn't even say there was no money," he said during a rally in Vidisha's Basoda.

Addressing a rally on Friday in Ganj Basoda, Gandhi said Modi has failed to fulfil his promise of giving jobs to two crore youths and ensuring remunerative prices to farmers for their produce.

Citing official data, Gandhi said that in India only 450 youths get jobs every day while in China, 50,000 people get employed every 24 hours.

He said the government is working for industrialists only and does not care about the youth or the farmers.

Madhya Pradesh will go for voting on November 28, the counting of votes will be done on December 11.
