Delay from Election Commission may cost Samajwadi Party its symbol - 'cycle'
New Delhi : Samajwadi Party's symbol 'cycle' may get frozen ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls if Election Commission delays beyond January 17 in deciding which fraction of the party commands majority in the organisation.
After split in Samajwadi Party last week, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav with their supporters had approached Election Commission to claim over party and its symbol.
Both the factions have submitted their documents for the same, and now Election Commission has given them time till Monday to provide signed affidavits of legislators and office bearers to claim control over the party's name and symbol.
The faction with anything above 50% will be eligible to claim stake of the 25-year-old party and its symbol.
Uttar Pradesh will go for polls on February 2, 2017.
