Ex-Kolkata Police top cop misses CBI summons, says he was on leave

Kolkata : A senior Kolkata Police officer, Rajeev Kumar, did not respond to CBI summons in connection to Shardha Chit Fund scam. Instead, on Monday, two police officers came representing him, requesting a week's time to comply with the summons.

The Central Bureau of Investigation officers have already asked immigration officers to ensure that he does not leave the country under any circumstances. Last evening, CBI officers summoned him to their office at 10 am on Monday in connection with the probe in the Saradha chit fund case.

A special team under Rajeev Kumar had investigated the chit fund case before the CBI took over the case in 2014. As per CBI allegation, he and his teammates allegedly tampered with evidence to shield politicians linked to the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress and was in touch with a key accused.

The CBI also told the apex court that he allowed the release of mobile phones and laptops that contained crucial records of the alleged involvement of the politicians in the scam.

Earlier this year, he was shifted after the CBI investigation reached the Supreme Court.
