Lok Sabha Election 2019: It was Priyanka Gandhi's decision to not contest from Varanasi, says Sam Pitroda

New Delhi : While there were claims that the Congress has strategically kept Priyanka Gandhi Vadra away from the Varanasi seat, a party leader has claimed that it was none other than Priyanka's decision to ditch the seat.

"It (not contesting from Varanasi) was Priyanka ji’s decision, she has other responsibilities. She thought rather than concentrating on one seat she should focus on the job she has at hand. So, that decision was her and she decided it," the chief of the Indian Overseas Congress said, according to news agency ANI.

Ever since Priyanka Gandhi was appointed Congress general secretary, there were several speculations on her seat allotment for the election.

While the party workers had demanded to field her either from Varanasi or Allahabad, she had left the decision on brother Rahul Gandhi.

“You will come to know when the party takes a decision. I have said time and again, I will do whatever the party tells me to do,” Priyanka Gandhi had said when asked about her candidature.
