New Delhi : Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy won the Karnataka Assembly floor test after 117 MLAs voted in his favour.

Ahead of floor test, the BJP leaders staged walkout from the Assembly on claims that Kumaraswamy did not deliver on his promise of waiving off farmers' loans.

BJP's Yedyyurappa said that Kumaraswamy had promised to waive off loans within 24 hours of taking up the CM post. They also warned a nationwide protest if loans are not waived off in next 24-48 hours.

Earlier, on the day, Congress legislator K.R. Ramesh Kumar was elected as the Karnataka Assembly Speaker.

Congress legislative party leader Siddaramaiah proposed Ramesh Kumar's name for the Speaker's post, which was seconded by Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara.

"(The) Congress legislator is elected unopposed as Speaker of the Assembly," said Bopaiah on the floor of the hung Assembly.
