Lok Sabha Elections: Rahul Gandhi to contest from two seats - Wayanad and Amethi

New Delhi : Congress President Rahul Gandhi will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls from two seats - Amethi and Wayanad.

"All southern states requested the Congress president to contest from their states. After enough deliberations he decided to contest from Wayanad, which shares its borders with two other states, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu," said senior Congress leader AK Antony at a press conference in New Delhi on Sunday.

Congress had been winning from the seat since long time. In 2009 and 2014, the party had won the elections with a huge margin.

Congress says the move had been done with a view to put the party's stronghold in the South India.

Last week, the Kerala unit chief of the Congress had said that Rahul Gandhi is likely to contest from north Kerala’s Wayanad constituency.

"We have been requesting him (Gandhi) for some time (to contest from the state). When he visited the state in March first week we reminded him again. He is positive about this and a formal announcement will be made soon," said Kerala Congress committee chief Mullapally Ramachandran.
