Mitun Chaktaborty resigns from Upper House

New Delhi : Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Rajya Sabha member Mithun Chaktaborty resigned from the Upper House citing health reasons.

Derek O'Brien, TMC leader in the House confirmed the news and said the actor-turned-politican has submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman.

Mithun has only 10 pc attendance while the average has been 78 pc. He has not participated in any discussion or raised any question or move any private members bill in the Upper House.  

Mithun, whose alleged involvement in Saradha scam made news last year, had attended the Upper House for three days only.

He has written to the Chairman that because of his health condition he is not been able to fulfil his duty in Rajya Sabha and that is why he is relinquishing his seat.

Chakraborty was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2014.
