Srinagar : Congress General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday held Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for deteriorating security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said, "Kya wajah hai ki 2014 tak haalaat thik hogaye the? Kya wajah hai ki 2014 se lekar aaj tak haalaat phir 1990-91 ki tarah hue? Uske liye agar koi ek aadmi zimmedaar hai, iss desh ka PM zimmedaar hai. (What is the reason that the situation had improved by 2014. What is the reason that since then, the situation is as grave as it was in 1990-91? If anyone’s responsible for this, it is the Prime Minister."

Attacking the local police as well, Azad said, "Wo (J&K Police) bhi kam dushman nahi hai. Unhone bhi kam zyadtiyaan nahi ki. Main salute karta hun unn police walon ko jinhone apni jaanein di, lekin usmein bhi kuch naasoor aise the jo apni promotion aur paise ke liye nihathe logon ka kathal karte the. (They aren’t holier-than-thou. They also haven’t inflicted fewer atrocities on the people. I salute all the police personnel who lost their lives but there were some who killed unarmed people just for money or promotion)."

Azad defended Omar Abdullah's comment and blamed it on PM Modi for creating a situation that such demands are being raised.

Attacking the PM, he had said that he had never seen a Government or a Prime Minister who uses “filthy language and has no control over his oratory.”

In  Kotranka, Azad had said, “The highest number of security personnel were killed during Modi’s time in the last five years, the highest number of 5,500 ceasefire violations and civilian killings were reported during the same period.” He said due to mishandling of the situation by the BJP-led Government at the Centre, terrorism, which was on the decline, is once again raising its head in the state.
