Varanasi : Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained on Friday by cops while she demanded a meeting with kins of 10 people killed in the Sonbhadra firing in Uttar Pradesh. She was seen sitting on the roads along with the protesters when the cops took her into the preventive custody. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma tagged the whole incident as an intended 'political drama to overshadow Congress' misdeeds'.

Talking to reporters in the Lok Bhavan, Dinesh Sharma said, "History is a witness to the fact that the Congress and its allies, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) illegally occupied lands of the poor during their regime.

"The root of this incident is Congress and now their leaders are shedding crocodile tears. It is the Congress which distributed the lands of the poor among influential people. Now, Priyanka Gandhi is doing political drama."

Dinesh Sharma also informed that CM Yogi Adityanath has instructed the ADG of Varanasi zone to investigate the matter and submit a report within 10 days.

Earlier, Mr Adityanath promised justice and announced in the state assembly that a sub-divisional magistrate and four policemen have been suspended. Twenty-nine people were arrested.
