New Delhi : After a stinging defeat in the Assembly elections of Punjab and Goa, Aam Aadmi party’s (AAP) national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal raised question over the sanctity of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) used in the polling process.

Claiming that the sole reason, that the AAP lost the Punjab polls, was because the party’s votes were transferred to the BJP-SAD alliance.  Kejriwal said, “Many said that there is anger against Akali’s & AAP is sweeping polls, still AAP got 25 pc votes & SAD got 31 pc, how is it possible? 25-30 pc of AAP’s vote was transferred to SAD so Congress won election. They wanted AAP to lose any which way. Akali’s victory would’ve made it too obvious. They only wanted to keep AAP out. “

Questioning the necessity for using EVMs, Kejriwal asked why when developed countries were not using the machines, India needed to use them. Expressing that he didn’t mind being made fun off on social media, Delhi’s Chief Minister said that there was a need for the Election Commission to increase people’s faith in the voting mechanism.

He even urged the EC to conduct polls in paper ballot for the upcoming MCD polls in Delhi, which was rejected.

Earlier, BSP chief Mayawati also raised questions over the EMV machines after the party was demolished in UP state polls.
