Meghalaya : In a bid to reach young voters in poll-bound Meghalaya, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attended a party-organised concert in a blue denim jeans and black jacket.

Congress had been ruling in the north-eastern states for over 15 years.

The concert, named 'Festival of Peace', was attended by over 4000 people, who braved cold-winter evening to attend the festival.

In a speech that was for less than five minutes, Rahul Gandhi said, "We are strongest when we stand together in our diversity. India's strength is our diverse culture and different languages, different ways of thinking."

He also suggested that we all must love and respect to make the country stronger.

"When we fight each other and spread hatred, we are not strengthening our country but weakening it and disrespecting our people, our past and our future," he said.

Asking the people to be proud of their heritage, language and religion, the Congress president said, "We are all proud of you and we will defend your way of thinking".

The elections in Meghalaya will be held on February 27 this year.
