6 killed in Taliban attack on Afghan security forces (Lead)

Kabul : At least four members of the Afghan security forces and two civilians were killed on Tuesday in a suicide car bombing by Taliban targeting a military convoy in a district of Kabul province.

The attack took place in the morning when a suicide bomber detonated explosives in Kabul's Paghman district, Interior Ministry spokesperson Najib Danish was cited as saying by TOLO news. The attacker was also killed in the bombing.

Six Afghan troops were wounded in the attack, Kabul police spokesperson Basir Mujahid told Efe news, adding that the two deceased civilians were women.

"We are still coordinating and gathering information from the hospitals regarding civilian casualties. The toll may increase," the official said.

In a statement, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid identified the assailant as Amran Masoum, adding that the attack targeted US forces and members of Afghan intelligence agency National Directorate of Security.

Afghan authorities do not reveal casualty figures among its personnel, but according to the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, forces suffered a record number of casualties between May and October 2018 compared to previous years.
