Madrid : Atletico Madrid's newest acquisition, French winger Thomas Lemar, said on Monday that he has his sights set on winning the UEFA Champions League title.

The 22-year-old took part in France's successful 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign, and joins Atletico from AS Monaco, where he spent the last three years, reports Efe.

"I will give it my all to try to get as far as possible and to try to win the Champions (League)," Lemar said during his presentation as Atletico Madrid's new player.

The Diego Simeone-coached Atletico reached two Champions League finals in 2014 and 2016 but they lost against cross-town rival Real Madrid.

Last season, Atletico clinched the Europa League title, defeating Marseille in the final in Lyon in May.

He added that he was "very happy" to join the club, which finished second in La Liga in the 2017/2018 season, and is excited to meet his new teammates and fans.

"It's a club that will allow me to continue improving a lot. There is a team (capable of) winning titles and that's why I came. I know this team demands hard work and I'll give it my all for the team. If I need to run more, I'll do it without a problem," he added.

Lemar said his France teammates Antoine Griezmann and Lucas Hernandez stressed the good environment at Atletico Madrid, adding "It was not decisive but it was important to come. I'm thrilled with my choice".

Atletico club president Enrique Cerezo was delighted to welcome Lemar to his new home. "At just 22 years old, he's already shown his quality and talent at Monaco, which brought him to the French national team. Just a few weeks ago, they won the World Cup in Russia," Cerezo said, according to the club's website.

"Thomas, we know that your teammates and friends Antoine Greiezmann and Lucas Herández have already told you what it means to defend this red and white shirt. We also know how excited you are to come to Atlético de Madrid and we're sure your arrival will help us reach our goals."
