BSF seizes Bangladesh Taka 14.86 lakh

Kolkata : The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized Bangladesh currency (Taka) of Rs 14,86,550 face value from West Bengal's North 24 Parganas and Nadia districts, an official said on Friday.

Based on prior information, the BSF personnel laid a trap in the Bastala Pukur Bornoberai village in North 24 Parganas district on Thursday and apprehended a man on the Indian side, who was moving towards the village with a packet in hand wrapped with paper.

"Dilip Halder was apprehended. On opening the packet, Bangladesh Taka 8,06,550 was recovered. In Indian currency, the value of the seized Taka is Rs 6,93,633," a BSF statement said.

In another incident, a trap laid by BSF troopers in the open field area of village Karalipara under Mahakola border outpost in Sector Krishnanagar of Nadia district on Friday.

"The BSF troopers chased a man with a packet in his hand but he managed to escape taking the advantage of nearby houses. However, the packet with Bangladesh Taka 6,80,000 was recovered. In Indian currency, the value of the seized Taka is Rs 5,80,422," he said.

In 2018, South Bengal Frontier BSF has seized foreign currency (including this seizure) of approx Rs 1,13,53,003 and apprehended seven smugglers.
