New Delhi : A 33-year old Cyber cafe owner was arrested for impersonating himself as a Indian Police Service (IPS) officer by using beacon lights and logo of Delhi Police on his car in west Delhi, police said on Thursday.

Divay Malhotra was arrested on Wednesday night when he stopped by local police in a suspicious position, roaming in his car from Meenakshi Garden towards Subhash Nagar at Hari Nagar area.

"Local police on picket duty saw a suspected car flashing beacon light and having Delhi police logo on it. The accused driver later identified as Divay Malhotra gave directions to picket staff by Public Address system (PAS)to make way for him," Deputy Commissioner of Police Monika Bhardwaj said.

"On enquiry, he informed that he is an IPS officer and started rebuking the staff, but his behaviour, activities and personal appearance were found to be suspicious. Local police officers asked him to show his official identity card following which he became furious and again started threatening that he is son of an ACP in Delhi Police," Bhardwaj said.

"On sustained interrogation, the accused confessed that he runs a cyber cafe and is a resident of Meenakshi Garden. His parents are doctors and they run a private clinic. He often posed himself as an IPS officer and used beacon lights and Delhi Police logo just to create impression on his friends," Bhardwaj added.
