Gujarati 'khichdi' for 10,000 needy people on World Food Day
Gandhinagar : In a novel initiative, two charity organisations came together here on Tuesday to provide Gujarat's staple dish 'khichdi' to around 10,000 poor and needy people in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar on the occasion of World Food Day.
October 16 is celebrated as World Food Day globally to mark the founding day of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN in 1945.
"My Selfless Act", a platform for sharing selfless work which can inspire and motivate people to get involved for a better world, will provide 'khichdi' to the needy through around 50 volunteers of another charity organisation "Robinhood Army".
The staple diet of Gujarat, 'khichdi' is made from rice and pulses like toor dal, moong dal, masoor dal and is normally consumed for dinner.
"Our aim is to encourage people to spare some time from their busy schedule for volunteering into social service for a better world," My Selfless Act's Founder Trupti Gor told IANS.
Robinhood Army volunteers will procure the food from a centre and distribute it at more than a dozen places, especially slum dwellings, after 6 p.m.
My Selfless Act is helped by various grains and pulses stores for the initiative, which will cost around Rs 50,000.
